| Properties of aluminum |
◎ Lightweight: The specific gravity of Al is 2.7 about one-third that of iron (7.9). ◎ Excellent corrosion resistance: When Al is exposed to air, a thin oxidized film forms on the surface protecting the metal from corrosion. ◎ Good electrical conductor: The electrical conductivity of Al is approximately 60% that of copper. However, Al weights about one-third as much as copper, which means it conducts about twice as much electricity as copper of the same weight. ◎ Good heat conductor: Al is about three times as thermal-conductive as steel. ◎ Easy to recycle: Due to a low melting temperature, it is economically recyclable. ◎ Easy surface treatment: Al can be easily chemically and electrochemically surface treated or painted. ◎ Strong at low temperatures: Although steel becomes brittle at low temperature, Al increase in tensile strength and retains excellent quality. ◎ Nonmagnetic: Al is nonmagnetic, so it cannot be affected by magnetic field. |
